Why won't this rumor die?! Seriously. It makes MUCH more sense to make a set top box that is compatible with any tv, and thus have wider appeal and adoption than to make a TV that has to compete with every other TV manufacturer out there. This is not Apple's game. Their game it to look at a market that is not currently being exploited to its full extent, figure out what people may want, then come in and redefine that niche. Worked with the iPod, iPhone, and iPad. There were predecessor in each of these markets but Apple came in and completely dominated it because they redefined it and tied it into a (relatively) easy to use ecosystem. Ok, it a really easy to use ecosystem, just slow and bloated. :D

That's my guess.
Purchase apps and have them available for install without synchronization on ipad, ipod, iphone without plugging the device in.
Honestly, I don't think my version of it is correct but MobileMe is as good a guess as any other.

Well, if you leave it on the street, that's equivalent to discarding it. That's not an analogous situation here. Leaving it on your porch, which is still private property, would be more analogous. Getting your car stolen because you left it in a bad neighborhood would be still more analogous. In the car scenario, where you have a piece of property that's extremely traceable, then of course the police should (and would) help you recover it.
The "misclick to buy an app" scenario is even easier and simpler, and it's much less irresponsible than any of these other hypotheticals. I'd guess that 90% or more of iPhone users have a credit card linked to their iTunes account. You believe that there is an unlimited ceiling on how much money someone should lose as a result of linking a credit card to their account. If there were an app that cost a million dollars, and someone misclicked and bought it, you apparently believe it's right and good that they spend the rest of their life paying it off. I'm glad that Apple disagrees with you.
The notion that people shouldn't link their accounts to iTunes or shouldn't authorize large purchases (incidentally, if they followed your $1000 rule, they'd be out of luck if the app cost $900 rather than $1000, yes?) because Apple should just tell them to f off if they misclick like this...why? What's the benefit? How hard is it to give a refund? If it's really important, have them come to an Apple store and show that they didn't install the app.
Had you or someone else made the case that this was a mistake, just maybe a $20 mistake or even a $50 mistake rather than a $1000 mistake, then I'd say that's reasonable enough. I am not saying that people should take no personal responsibility for these sorts of mistakes. But $1000 is just crazy when these mistakes are as simple as a couple of clicks.

It's about time. But I've had a wireless mouse/keyboard set when I got my iMac G5 Rev. A back in the day, and I quickly got rid of it. I was sick and tired of changing the damn batteries every few weeks. I never mouse or type away from my desk, so I had no use for it, and I'd rather have the ugly wires than deal with the annoyance of buying/changing batteries often. Now, if they were rechargeable (in a dock, I don't want to have to take them out and put them in a seperate charger), I could see using them.

Registered my Starbucks card finally and got 5 stars. Now that I'm green I get a free tall drink (shown below) with every whole bean purchase. Bought the Breakfast Blend to start making at home. @$9.95 with a savings of $3.45 on the tall drink, it's a great deal. I'll save money making Starbucks at home!

gee wiz apple... 1 whole year? frick, and i just bought the logitech wireless desktop...
I have a Logitech Wireless MX 1000, and I love it, and wouldn't trade it for the world, and especially wouldn't trade it for a wireless Mighty Mouse.
A USB Mighty Mouse came with my G5, and I just stick it in my laptop case so I can have a backup mouse so i don't have to use the trackpad when I travel. I figure that's about all its good for when you have a really high-quality mouse like the MX 1000 laying around :-)

Oh yeah definitely I love the thought of controlling my computer by poking the screen, yeah I just love the fingerprints on the glass of my screen so much and the mouse is so CLUNKY, all it's good for is stuff like doing work and getting stuff done.

If enough people take a guess on the release date of the next iPhone, someone is going to be right!
I tend to believe All Things Digitals reporting since they are in bed with Apple and have been for years. Between Walt Mossberg & David Pogue, Steve's two hand picked suck ups, the rumors are fed direct to them. Lately to keep the scepticism at bay, either of those two have one of their minions write the article which keeps the other two flying under the radar. When the big announcements hit, then Walt takes it, writing a gushing article.
That said I'm very glad to see the date pushed back. Apple needs the extra time to get this one done right. I eagerly await the 5. Its Apples chance to build a really good smartphone. If they include a phone that works well, a proper 4" display, the new model will set an excellent standard. If it includes these basics I plan to order one asap.

Could someone clarify this for me: Aren't hard drives too slow to make use of Thunderbolt anyway?
I haven't read for sure, but I'm guessing these products are RAIDed for speed, not redundancy.
How many drives are in there? It's possible they've got the speeds up pretty high on them.

I guess that means you can't legally run XP on a Core Duo or Core2 Duo system...
Even for XP Home multi-core processors are considered one processor. It's the number of chips that counts. All started when Intel started Hyperthreading P4 CPUs (i.e. presenting them as 2 CPUs).
