Why not? The USA for example has only 4 million miles of roads. A car with driver + passenger + some decent equipment should be able to map say 10 miles per hour, at a cost of $50 per hour.

That's exactly what OpenStreetMap does. I know that it isn't widely used within the US (as most American hate OpenSource because it hurts the industry, see Firefox for instance: 70% marketshare in Europe, almost none in the US) but for example in some countries and parts of Europe OSM is much better than Nateq or Teleatlas maps as OSM users basically track *everything*, even the smallest trails which is just great for hiking or mountainbiking.

Apparently my family plan is too small to qualify. My wife and I combined are $160/month, but we're on the lowest voice plan for families. Gotta step up one more level before we qualify but we don't use our minutes as is.

    Pretty lame promo.

The lowest voice plan currently offered is the 700 Minute plan. Which should qualify.

No light sounds like it isn't getting any power. Are you sure it is plugged in to the power at the wall?

Have you tried another cable or USB port?

Does it make any noise at all? Can you hear the drive spinning up, or is there any clicking noise, etc?

I decided to not donate for a while. Actions like these get me to reconsider. Which is a good thing IMO.

    Now's a good a time as any :)

I have a factory unlocked iphone 4 and whilst on iOS 4.1, I became aware that when I installed gyroscope apps, they don't work. When 4.2.1 came out instead of solving the problem, my compass also failed. Both my gyro and compass don't work anymore... 4.3 came out still the same problem..

Now that 4.3.1 came out the accelerometer also failed!

Thank god I save my SHSH blobs since I restored back to 4.2.1

    Shame on you Apple!!

I really like the "pull down to refresh" feature.

    Very slick.

The 'Find Near Me' feature is kind of freaky now as well.

From what I've seen at the places I've been as an editor, the people who still have Avid are the ones that invested in it awhile ago and it's cheaper to maintain their current hardware. Though there are certainly desires to switch. I've also seen some places jump from Avid to Final Cut when doing complete system upgrades and ditching their old Power PC machines for Intel ones. Many places that are starting out are also going with Final Cut over anything else out there.

My Final Cut might not be 64 Bit, but it's doing just fine. Though our graphic designers have seen significant improvements in terms of render times going from After Effects CS4 to CS5, I think I can wait another 6 months and then be blown away by whatever improvement Apple makes to Final Cut.

It's called the 'semantic web'. You may want to look it up. Decent web designers have been designing this way for some time where they can and the W3 want everyone to go this way.

I think this makes us web programmers rather than designers.

It will only break your site design if your site design is badly designed in the first place.

Then please go visit www.csszengarden.com and see how user-applied changes break their designs to the point where elements are covered by others. Those designs usually apply to the W3 standards, and I bet they are far better at this things than either you or me.

Funny how NC law forbids the sale of handguns to anyone under 21, but you're 21 and you already have 2 expensive guns (and the iPhone you took the photo with). And yet you have to run a racket to be able afford a guitar.

    He's probably a professional thief/conboy(hence not a man)/racketeer.

Hence his paranoid need for self defense, he's probably scare of the poor people he's SCAMMED.

My problem with it isn't that businesses and people are in it for a profit (well, in certain areas). Hey, you got to make something. It's that the only thing that matters is the highest profit possible, at all costs.

That's when it's a problem. If you look at Policemen and Firemen, they get paid, they make money, but how much would our costs go up if these entities were for-profit? My guess substantially. Doctors have always have made a profit, they'd have to, to make a living. But it's the degree of profit. Big business seems to be bad for health care as the profit margins rise.

Same here. I used to skip school to play Tempest. Awesome game. If only there was a hardware spinner you could use with it...

I was just fooling around with GarageBand, and whipped up these 4 songs. 2 of them I've used in games I've created.

    Battle (http://www.worldwizard.net/songs/Battle.mp3)
    Battle 2 (http://www.worldwizard.net/songs/Battle_2.mp3)
    Polyphonizer (http://www.worldwizard.net/songs/Polyphonizer.mp3)
    Testing (http://www.worldwizard.net/songs/Testing.mp3)

Of the 4, Polyphonizer is my favorite. It got its name from the fact that it relies on mass polyphony to keep listeners' interest.
