I only know information about I-485 filing but do not know what to expect after it is filed?
Can someone tell me what to expect after things are in place? Like expecting Receipt date, fingerprinting - how many of them, what to look for and what to watch out for etc. A consolidated discussion may help many who are unaware of the system.
Who will get such information, lawyer or the applicant?
In normal circumstances (without the floodgates open) you would get a receipt within 2-3 weeks after the application is submitted. Fingerprinting happens soon after (still within a month). Then you get an EAD first, then the AP. In all this your lawyer will be informed as well as you. Sometimes your lawyer gets to hear first b4 you.
...Wait for approval of i-140 depending on date they are processing at NSC. Hope this helps. this is my 2 cents

Hello,

Though i applied EAD for my daughter [who is under 4 years at the time of application], i neither received EAD reciept nor the application back. I saw in some other threads that kids under 10years are not getting EADs. Is it true?
I know some may ask why we need EADs for kids? My daughter 's I-94 is expired on Oct 10th 2007 and i applied EAD for her in july just in case though she cant work.
Any ideas?

Quick survey to findout how many people like the idea of having their passports restamped here in USA and avoid all the surprises and shocks. This doesn't need any legal fixes. It is a convenient measure for everyone. Besides it was an old practice that was stopped for "security" reasons or some crapp. It is a small step but helps with any cases like family emergency or some urgent business need to travel abroad.
Based on the poll results and suggestions, we can comeup with a strategy to address the issue.

Looks like there are 27 co-sponsors for HR 5882 and 7 of those joined this month. That is a good news I guess.

I applied for I 485 , AP and EAD during 07 July. I got a fp notice back in 2007 and I got another one two weeks ago. I went ahead and did my bio-metrics over the weekend at TSC Application Support Center.
Does this mean that somebody has looked into my file and pre adjudicated it? or is it a automated thing and does not mean anything?
Please advice!

Hi All,
Sorry for posting this in an Immigration forum. I am just trying to get some advise from people who might have already been in this situation.
My cousin came to US on F-1 visa in Jan 2007. She has been attending grad school in NY...She got money from India to pay for her tuition for the first semester as she had no financial aid....One professor promised her aid starting Aug 2007 but that prof left the university for personal reasons so I paid her tuition/insurance for one semester ($10k)....I have also been helping her with her living expenses since she arrived in US....She only worked 1 day throughout the year and has a W-2 with $29 as earnings for 2007...
My question is, can I claim her as a dependent in my tax filing....She lives in NY and I work/live in TX.....I am planning to consult a tax professional regarding this, but I just wanted to get a heads up from you all before visiting a professional.

I think those bills will only be related to toughening border security n patrol..

But if we have a coordinated campaign to target the senators with letters/web faxes...who know we might be able to get some interim relief as part of the border security bills.
We should atleast try to recapture the visa's lost since 2000.
I for one am sending letters to both my senators. I read in one of the posts that sending letters via snail mail is ideal, along with basic info about your I140.
There is an excellent template of such letter in one of the media campaign thread.

Priority Date comes first, and then country limit. Country limit is not respected at the last quarter of each Visa Year (July to Sep).
If you're on EB2, then you're on for approval as soon as everything clears (security check, etc.). If you're on EB3, wait for a while dear. It will not come soon.

In my case I applied for my MIL visa extension on March 15th. We received the approval last week. Her I-94 expired on May 15th, we chose to wait till we heard the decision.
I only requested for 4 months. Also, this is the second extension I applied for my MIL and this is her 4th visit to US. My take, you should be good as long as you state a valid reason and show good financial support..

What is the minimum requirement for EB2? From what I read, it's BS+5yrs, or MS+1yr.
1. Is there a rule that the experience should have been gained outside of the US?
2. Is there a rule that the number of years experience should be from an employer other than the petitioning employer?

I've found this site to be very helpful so far and would like to ask for some opinions on my case.
My I-485 (EB2) was submitted in 2007 and the PD is approaching, only 5 days away based on June's VB. My girlfriend is currently with F-1 visa and we are planning on getting married asap so that she can submit her 485 before my case is approved.
Here's the complete list that I can think of based on the research that I've done.
Documents that my future wife's need prepare
I-485 form
birth certificate
marriage certificate
medical exam
passport pages (I-94 card ect)
I-20 form
Two photos
Documents that I need prepare
My I-485 receipt

It is very important to get married before your GC is approved. Even if you are 1 day late, you cannot file I-485 or follow to join. So its better to get married before June 1st to remove any such risk. Good luck!

I applied for my first EAD in May 2007 and had FP done in June 2007. I am now applying for my EAD renewal. Will there be another FP for the renewal?
This is really urgent as I am traveling to India in April for a month and I don't want to miss the FP appointment. Please let me know if you have info on this?

I efiled on April 7th and got FP notice on April 15th or so with appointment date of April 30th. Hope this helps.

I have applied 485 through a lawyer. The lawfirm sold their company to some one else. I was asked to file G28 and I didn't file for G28 yet.
I got a mail saying I was sent RFE n Feb 4th. I haven't received the letter yet. Would the RFE go to lawyer or me?
What should I do now?

Isn't it strange that even though Eb3-I PD Mar 04 is not current, they opened the file and sent RFE?
